Road End Legislation Reintroduced

Representative John Stakoe reintroduced road end legislation in the Michigan House of Representatives in February. The bill number is HB 4141 and mirrors HB 6548 which died in committee as the legislative session drew to a close on December 31st. HB 4141 has been referred to the House Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Committee, chaired by Representative Susan Tabor.

We expect the committee to take up this legislation this Month (March). So, now is the time to send in those cards and letters to committee members relative to your support for passage of this long sought after legislation to protect our road ends from being turned into private marinas.

Already members of the committee are receiving letters from backlotters in opposition to HB 4141 on the grounds that this legislation will take away their access right to the lake. Obviously, this is not true. In fact the legislation (as published in our last issue of Water Lines) will guarantee the right of all residents to use the road ends to gain access to the surface waters of our lake by prohibiting a select few from commandeering these public access sites for their exclusive use.
